Tried El Cholo recently I already want to go back. I should have taken more pictures of the food but there are a lot of picture on Yelp already. What a great restaurant. We were seated upstairs. The ambiance is kind of fancy but not too fancy. No need to dress up. We got a booth which was nice. They started off with chips and salsa, which was really good. We had to get the table side of guacamole and we really liked that too. My wife and I went for lunch on a Thursday and it wasn't super crowded. They don't have a ton of parking in the back so that worked out. Our server was great and so nice. We couldn't ask for a better one. We got the Mexican Salad and the Tostada. The portion sizes were huge. I could have saved half for another meal (but I didn't). The menu is filled with so many items that we want to try. Can't wait to try the seafood. Overall we had a great experience and I would highly recommend.

First time for this Utah native at El Cholo and it exceeded my expectations! Was not busy for lunch on Friday around noon, we were sat right away. The restaurant is beautiful and has an upscale but comfortable vibe and our server was very kind and accommodating. The chips were freshly made and thin and crispy (perfect!) and the salsa had great flavor and not too much spice. I ordered the chimichanga and was impressed with the portion, presentation and flavors! The tortilla was nicely crispy and the filling had great flavor--not just plain boiled chicken as I've experienced in other restaurants and the proportions of filling to crust as perfect! Served with guacamole and sour cream, rice and beans. Also had the hot chocolate which was mild and delightful. Hint of cinnamon but not overpowering. So glad to find this place! Posting a review because it deserves to be busy! We will definitely be back!

Food quality: 4/5 Service: 5/5 Cleanliness: 5/5 Value: 4/5 Tried out El Cholo for the first time last week and overall, the experience was good. The staff was nice and welcoming - also very accommodating since we had one person from group run bit late. The restaurant was clean and the food came out pretty quickly once we ordered. I ordered the Taste of History, which gave me a good variety of everything. The portion size was huge and I ended up having to take leftovers back home. The food tasted fine, but nothing too out of the ordinary. They definitely ended up paying more attention to the quantity vs. quality of the food. There was one small cheese enchilada, chile relleno, pork tamale (mostly maza), and rice and beans. It's a little pricey for what the food actually contains ($25.95), as I know there are many other places that have a similar type of dish for less. Others in my party ordered the enchiladas and carne asada. Enchiladas were fine, again, nothing out of the ordinary. The Carne Asada came with a full piece of steak that was not very springy to the touch and firm - not the best quality. Overall, good experience, but probably won't be back as there are other places with better quality.

Our first visit to El Cholo was nothing short of amazing! We were greeted warmly and treated to a complimentary table-side Guacamole for being first-time guests--it was such a thoughtful touch, and the guacamole was fresh and absolutely delicious. I ordered the Chicken Mole with Grilled Chicken, a recommendation from our fantastic server, Karen. The mole sauce was rich and flavorful, and the grilled chicken added a nice smoky touch. My boyfriend tried the Carne Asada, and it was perfectly cooked, tender, and bursting with flavor. For drinks, we had the El Cholo Margarita and the Coconut Margarita--both were incredible. The El Cholo Margarita had a classic, refreshing taste, while the Coconut Margarita brought a tropical twist we couldn't get enough of. The food, drinks, and service were all top-notch. If you're looking for great Mexican cuisine and a welcoming atmosphere, El Cholo is a must-visit! We'll definitely be back.

Rating 4 out of 5 Value for money: 4 Cleanliness: 5 Food Quality: 3 Customer Service: 5 Look and Feel (Ambiance): 5 Thank you, Come Again?: 4 Address: 2166 S 900 E, Salt Lake City, UT 84106 El Cholo is a chain restaurant with multiple locations in the US. (Los Angeles, Santa Monica, Downtown LA, Anaheim Hills, Corona Del Mar, La Habra). Their latest location is in the neighborhoods nearby Sugarhouse in SLC. Carne Asada Plate: $26.95 - the dish came with rice and beans along with the perfectly portioned steak. Unfortunately the steak was under seasoned and over cooked. It was tough to cut through with a serrated steak knife. The rice was also a little on the dry side. I loved the fresh guacamole that came in a cute tortilla bowl. Hot Chocolate: ~$6 (can't find the price on the online menu to confirm) I have only been to Mexico once and don't recall trying authentic Mexican style hot chocolate before. If I had, I would have imagined it to be similar to El Cholo's version. The chocolate flavor wasn't as rich as I would have expected but it had hints of cinnamon and reminded me of chocolate version of horchata. The hot chocolate was frothed table side by the server. Customers have the option to also top off their drink with a dollop of fresh whipped cream. Overall, I loved the fun atmosphere that the restaurant strives to achieve with all of their customers. From taking pictures in an oversized sombrero to being served tableside hot chocolate, El Cholo would be a fun little spot to take friends and family. Would you go? Let me know. Follow me for all the sips and trips.

This is my third time eating here and each time I've liked it more and more!! Don't know if their food is improving or if I'm just liking what I order more? Tonight we were seating at the high top table, which I usually try to avoid due to my short legs, but their high tops are by far the most comfortable!! Perfectly positioned foot rest. I got their margarita without salt, which was delicious and my husband, his usual iced tea. We got chips and salsa of course, but they also offered us free nachos, so we figured why not, especially since I had a lactaid with me. They were delicious!! My husband got the veggie salad which I had last time and he really liked it, as did I. I got the single cheese enchilada with rice and beans. It's been forever since I've had a cheese enchilada, and it was phenomenal!!! (Thanks lactaid!) They gave us these yummy little pecan/caramel cookies with the check. Such a fun treat!! Can't wait to come back!!

Service was friendly, efficient, and on top of things! Seafood fajitas were not only huge portion, but generous with lobster and fish, ascwell as veggies and sides.
